The desk you choose and how you set it up will have a great impact on your productivity. As someone who has worked remotely and runs a remote company, I know that everybody is different. In this guide I hope to guide you to the right remote desk for you and compare some options.

Different types of remote desks.

Before we start you should know what your options are. Of course there are millions of desks available and endless options, but you will really find three types. The different types of remote desks are:

  • Standing Desk
  • Large Desk (Executive Desk)
  • Minimalist Desk (Writing Desk or Computer Desk)

Each desk will fill different needs and be suitable for different personalities. Let’s take a look at who each type of desk might be good for.

Standing Desk

Standing desks are desks that extend (usually electronically) up and allow you to work from a standing or sitting position.

Who are they for? Standing desks are great for people who are looking to burn calories or get their circulation pumping while working. Some people find that they are way more productive when they can work both standing up and sitting down. If you are someone who feels you need the option to work on your feet, this is a great choice for you.

Who are they not for? People who may find the option to work on their feet more of a distraction. In most cases if I need to move, I also need a short break from work and will go out of the office.

Large Desks or Executive Desks

Large Desks, also known as Executive Desks are normally much larger and include more drawers.

Who are they for? Large or Executive Desks are great for people like me who need a lot of space. I personally often will have multiple screens up and notebooks open. This requires extra space. If you are someone who needs the space and will use it then this is a great option for you.

Who are they not for? People who really do not need the extra space. If you don’t need the extra space and most of your work is digital, then you will most likely fill the space with distractions or create a mess.

Minimalist Desks (Writing Desk or Computer Desk)

Minimalist Desk can be called writing desks or computer desks and are very simple. Typically there is just enough space for a computer and a notebook.

Who are they for? Minimalist desks are great for people who do not need the space of a large desk. If you don’t need the extra space and may collect clutter or fill the space with distractions, then this desk is for you.

Who are they not for? People who need extra space for writing or using multiple devices.

Consider your needs and choose the desk that will allow you to be the most productive.
